This stunning silver mounted mazer bowl was made in Birmingham in 1972 by the renowned Joseph Gloster. Of circular form, the inner bowl lined with silver. The rim with decorative pinched decorations. The raised girdle engraved with geometric patterns, the turned maple bowl raised on a narrow pedestal foot.
* Mazer are shallow bowls without handles, used to be popular for royal and noble households as drinking vessels in medieval times. Although “mazer” stands for “maple wood”, they were made of various woods, and often decorated with rims of precious metals.

This large and unique piece was made in London 1906 by the reputed Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company. It was most probably a commission piece for a wealthy collector. The deep, heavy gauge, spot-hammered silver bowl raised on three cast dolphin feet, the upper section with a simple band of raised roundels.
The base impressed "GOLDSMITHS & SILVERSMITHS COMANY 112 REGENT STREET. W" and engraved 1931 to 1950, possibly a commemoration date.

This stunning Arts and Crafts silver vase was imported by the highly collectable Berthold Muller * who was at the forefront of the German Hanau silver group. The spot-hammered trumpet-shaped body with punched border detail beneath the rim, repeated to the base. The circular pedestal foot with a stylised gadroon border. Plain everted rim. * Berthold Mueller was an import firm, who distributed a lot of Neresheimer silver. The firm changed its name in 1915 to Berthold Muller and was listed as wholesale silversmiths and jewellers.
B. Neresheimer & Sohne, Hanau, Germany offered a wide range of highly decorative objects and other sumptuous sideboard pieces. Hanau silver was largely imported in UK between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
